Christmas Activity 2011

The Christmas Activity this year was held on the 20th of December. All students attending on full time basis at San Miguel participated.   The  parents present at the activity were invited to join in with the students, making it a special,  interactive experience for all.  The guests congratulated the staff for the good planning and preparation of the activity.

Tha Archbishop’s Visit

On May 19th 2011 His Excellency the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr. Paul Cremona, paid a visit to San Miguel Primary Education Resource Centre. This visit was the main focus of the Family Day which is organised annually in the third term.  Present for the Family Day there was also Ms. M. Ciappara Principal of St Clare’s College, Ms Mervin Vella Service Manager, Fr. Rene’ Vella Parish priest of Pembroke and Ms C. Grech President of the School Council.  Other guests included family members of the students who attend full time and those who attend regularly for specialised services at the school. San Miguel students visit St. Ignatius College (Qormi San Bastjan Primary)

San Miguel and Qormi primary

After the success of the visits from the other schools, a group of students from San Miguel were invited to partecipate in activities at Qormi Primary.  Staff from San Miguel prepared  two interactive storytellling and  painting activities for these visits. Numicon training

Members of staff from San Miguel had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Numicon methodology of teaching Maths .  Numicon is a multi-sensory approach at teaching maths to children of primary school age and persons with learning difficulties.  It helps students develop math skills and improves their visual memory.  Training for the staff was carried out by Ms Rosette Gatt (PACES programme co-ordinator at Inspire).

Reverse Inclusion

 

San Miguel has embarked on a new project. Students from the mainstream are invited to San Miguel Resource Centre where they join the full time students in various multisensory activities.

Music therapy sessions

Music Therapy is now an integral part of the services offered at San Miguel  Resource  Centre.  Rosetta Debattista has worked in this field since 1993.  Individual sessions are held on a weekly basis offering the students the opportunity to be expressive through musical play.  Improvisation is the main tool and the therapy focuses on emotional/behavioural issues , physical motivation and interaction.

The visit of The President of Malta

On Friday 15th October 2010,  the President Of Malta,  His Excellency Dr. George Abela,  visited  St Clare College including San Miguel Primary Resource Centre.

During his visit to San Miguel he was given a warm welcome by the staff and the students and he was shown around the Resource Centre.  He said that he was impressed by the quality of the services and equipment which the Centre provided and that he was very grateful for the amount of work which is carried out daily.
